Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) has become an integral part of just about every photography business’ marketing mix. Without proper SEO implementation, a business will almost certainly lose out on market share to its competition. For this reason, it is best to arm yourself with the best possible tools and resources needed to ramp up your SEO efforts both on and off the page.
If you are using WordPress for your website, then you are in luck. There are loads of plugins available that will make the whole SEO process easier.
However I can save you a bit of time as there are really two main players on the block. In the Red corner we have the Titan of the SEO scene – Yoast SEO! And in the Blue corner we have the smaller player that is All in One SEO.
But which SEO plugin is best?
In this article we are going to take a fresh look at each plugin and tell you what we believe is the best one to go with.
For the purposed of the review, we decided to focus on three key areas: Installation and Setup; Daily Ease of Use; and lastly the individual features of the Product.
1. Installation and Setup.
Ease of installation and setup is likely something that you will be looking for in a plugin regardless of your experience level or the amount of knowledge you have in the field.
Ideally, you want to find a plugin that offers both quick and easy installation and setup.
In terms of installation and setup, a lot is going to depend on your own personal preference. In order to successfully install the Yoast SEO plugin, you will need to install and activate the plugin itself.
After activation, you will be able to head on over to the Dashboard section of the plugin and launch the configuration wizard.
That brings you to a step by step wizard tutorial which walks you through the entire setup process. This is a huge help for beginners because it does not completely overwhelm you with specific technical jargon and countless options.
However, this simplicity doesn’t mean it doesn’t come with lots of advanced options – quite the opposite. It actually comes with a vast amount of options to choose from that make it a complete and powerful SEO plugin. It just does it in a much more accessible way.
All In One SEO Pack:
In order to get All In One SEO pack working, you need to install and activate the plugin.
From there, you will click on and be taken to the plugin’s settings page.
This is where things can get very confusing for those that are brand new to plugins, SEO, or even WordPress in general.
Because all of the plugin’s settings are featured on a single page, it can be very overwhelming to those that are not quite sure what to look for. While the settings page is divided into different sections which can help some, it takes a good amount of knowledge to be able to successfully navigate and sort through the entire plugin.
While both plugins have a range of options that you can choose from, Yoast SEO does a much better job simplifying the entire process and making things much more organized overall.
Winner For Installation and Setup: Yoast SEO
2. Daily Ease of Use.
Because SEO is largely an ongoing process that needs a certain level of consistency in order to achieve the best results, you are going to want to opt for the plugin that is capable of offering the best daily ease of use.
Each time you create a new piece of content, you will be using the SEO plugin to effectively optimize the content. Thus, you should be looking for a plugin that will help with this entire process.
When it comes to daily ease of use and accessibility, Yoast is King. Yoast SEO’s plugin comes with a very powerful, effective, and efficient content analysis tool that can help you thoroughly optimize every single post that you create on your website.
Below each post editor, you will find the Yoast plugin at work with a preview, keyword field, and the overall analysis of the content.
Yoast allows you to enter your own focus keyword for the content that you are creating in order to analyze your post based on the target keyword in mind.
The analysis is then showed in the specified area where the plugin will offer you suggestions on how you can improve the content in order to achieve a better and more optimized SEO score.
Because it has an advanced section for those that know and understand the inner workings of the SEO process, this tool offers extreme flexibility for even the most advanced users.
All In One SEO Pack:
All In One SEO comes with a very similar metabox in order to effectively edit a post each and every time.
With that being said, there is no content analysis whatsoever.
While the plugin itself does offer advanced options for those that are looking to completely control indexing and following, it does not offer any sort of recommendations, suggestions, or analysis.
As a result, this will not speed up the optimization process or even help optimize your posts at all. Instead, you will need to know how to properly optimize your posts with effective SEO principles and be able to analyze each post on your own.
While each plugin offers the ability to easily edit the settings on a post by post basis, only one offers content analysis and SEO scoring. Therefore, Yoast SEO offers a big advantage by not only increase the effectiveness of each post, but also the efficiency at which you can optimize it.
Winner For Daily Ease of Use: SEO Yoast
Another major factor that you should be looking at and considering when it comes to finding the best SEO plugin for your WordPress website would be its features.
Because on-page SEO is quite a complicated process, you want to find the plugin that comes with all of the features that can help simplify and speed up the entire process for you. These additional features can make the plugin that much more valuable to your site creation process.
Yoast SEO has an incredible amount of features that cover just about every aspect of the entire optimization process that you will need to cover for each and every site.
Not only does it come with XML sitemaps, open graph meta tags, Google Webmaster Tools integration, import and expert SEO data capabilities, and breadcrumb navigation, but it also has a built-in robots.txt and .htaccess editor as well.
All In One SEO Pack:
All In One SEO pack comes with a lot of features that make it a very valuable plugin as well.
However, some of the features are deactivated after installation. Thus, you have to manually activate them. The features included are; XML sitemap, open graph meta tags, performance manager, file editor, bad bot blocker, and the ability to import and export SEO data.
The features included in All In One SEO Pack are much of the same as Yoast with the exception of breadcrumb navigation and being able to import data from the Google Search Console.
With that being said, neither will have a dramatic impact on your SEO results.
Winner For Features: An equal draw.
So, Which SEO Plugin is best For WordPress?
While both SEO plugins offer an incredible range of versatility, features, and functionality, only Yoast offers everything in such a package that is suitable and convenient for both novice website masters and those that are extremely knowledgeable in the field.
Because Yoast offers a level of accessibility that makes completing on page SEO simple for the average user, it is by far the winner when it comes to being the best SEO plugin for WordPress.
Yoast SEO has more features with the best being its ability to analyze your posts. Having a tool that can do real-time analyzing of the content that you are publishing not only saves you an incredible amount of time and energy, but it can really help to ensure that you are able to get the best on page optimization for each and every post you make.
Each of the two SEO plugins option offers basic free version with the ability to pay for professional support and/or additional features.
Yoast recently recently introduced a new Internal Linking analysis feature in the Premium version of their plugin that is so good, I would highly recommend upgrading to the Premium version of the plugin, just for that reason – it is so good and internal linking can make a big difference to SEO performance rankings.
So, in summary, go for Yoast and if you can afford the small fee to upgrade to the premium version you should do it!
